West Tampa Junior Girls In World Series

The West Tampa Little League Junior Girls Softball team won the Southeast regional title, and will now compete in the 2010 Junior Softball World Series in Kirkland, Washington, beginning Sunday.

But they have to find a way to get to Kirkland.

The 13- and 14-year-old girls played in the Southeast Regional tournament in Fort Myers, winning the championship game against Cape Coral 4-1 in 14 innings.  They went undefeated throughout the series, winning pool games against West Virginia (12-1), Virginia (7-2), and Tennessee (15-7).  They played Georgia in the semi-final, beating them 5-0.

Pool play for the Junior League Softball World Series begins Sunday, and the Championship game is scheduled for Saturday, August 21.  Here's the entire schedule for West Tampa (Southeast).

POOL PLAY (A)
SUN AUG 15 / Southeast vs Canada / 2:45p PST - Field A
TUE AUG 17 / Southeast vs Host / 11:00a PST - Field A
WED AUG 18 / Southeast vs Latin America / 1:45p PST - Field B
THR AUG 19 / Southeast vs Southwest / 2:00p PST - Field A

FRI AUG 20 / SEMI-FINALS / 4:45p PST

You can watch the games live at Youth Sports Live (watch the volume when clicking).

Before they can play, the team needs to get to Everest Park in the opposite corner of the country.  Normally, we'd just sit around and wait for George Steinbrenner to pick up the tab.  But poor George has moved on, so we gotta take up the slack. For information or to make donations for the estimated $25,000 trip to Washington, contact West Tampa Little League President Maggie Puentes at (813) 352-3042.
