NFL Preseason - Chiefs At Buccaneers: Matchup

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (0-1)  AT TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS (0-1)

The Chiefs travel to the Sunshine State to face Tampa Bay on Saturday, marking Kansas City’s second straight preseason game against an NFC South foe. The contest will mark the second preseason outing for both clubs. Kansas City is playing a preseason road contest against the Buccaneers for the first time since 2000.

The Buccaneers are coming off a 10-7 loss at Miami in their preseason opener.

Kansas City opened the preseason with a 20-10 loss at Atlanta. The Chiefs finished the contest with 19 first downs and 273 yards of total offense, while Kansas City’s defense limited Atlanta to 16 first downs and 244 total yards. Kansas City also posted 130 rushing yards, including a game-high 38 yards from RB Javarris Williams. RB Jamaal Charles added 37 yards on the ground for the Chiefs while CB Javier Arenas broke off a 42-yard kickoff return.

The Chiefs and Falcons were tied 3-3 at the half thanks to a 20-yard K Ryan Succop FG that capped a 17-play, 78-yard drive to end the first half. QB Tyler Palko also scored on a one-yard run for the Chiefs in the fourth quarter.

On the defensive side of the ball, LB Jovan Belcher led the club with six tackles. LB Pierre Walters added five tackles, while LB Corey Mays and S Reshard Langford each had four stops. The Chiefs also forced the Falcons to miss a pair of FGs in the first half and P Dustin Colquitt posted a 40.0 net punting average for the game.

THE SERIES
Tampa Bay holds a 3-1 edge over Kansas City in preseason action. The Bucs won the last meeting by a 37-14 count at Tampa Bay (8/25/00), while the Chiefs claimed a 17-13 decision in a game played at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK (8/8/98).

Kansas City and Tampa Bay each have five wins in the all-time regular season series. The Buccaneers have won the last two regular season meetings in the series, both of which have been played at Raymond James Stadium. In both the preseason and regular season, Kansas City is 2-5 when playing at Raymond James Stadium.

Kansas City’s last regular season victory vs. Tampa Bay was when Pro Football Hall of Famers QB Joe Montana and RB Marcus Allen made their regular season debuts in Chiefs uniforms as the Chiefs collected a 27-3 win on Opening Day (9/5/93).
