Head Coach Guy Boucher Speaks

Some comments from Head Coach Guy Boucher from the first day of training camp

On when he’ll start implementing his system:

“That started in June. I met quite a few of the players this summer, I met some in the last two weeks, yesterday and I met everybody last night. I’ve said a lot of things about what we want to do as an organization and how we want to do it and I’ve talked about some specifics on the ice.”

On what kind of players the Lightning wants:

“We’re looking for guys who are tough. To me, toughness is not about fighting or hitting. it’s about being able to take checks and cheap shots and keep going. That takes somebody who’s tough mentally and physically to do that. And that’s the number one thing we’re looking for.”

On who stood out today:

“I like (Dominic) Moore. I saw him play last year in Montreal and I loved him. He represents a lot of the kind of stuff we want to do. He’s fast, he’s gritty, he’s in-your-face. he drives the net, he’s got a shooter’s mentality and he forces himself in between the dots in the areas where it hurts but it pays. Today, he was bopping a lot of people and he was making it happen so i was quite impressed with him. Also you look at (Richard) Panik. He got a few points but to me, it’s more than that. I saw him at Traverse City and I’ve seen development in just a few days. Panik is one of those guys. There’s quite a few of them. If I start naming them, I’ll leave somebody out but for right now I’ll leave it at two guys.”
