Coach Boucher Speaks

Observations from the 2nd day of training camp:

On players’ approach on the ice:

“No matter what our systems are, we need to pursue the puck and dictate the play. If you’re always in a so-called ‘thinking’ mode, you’re basically always reacting to the opponent. That’s not what I want. I want us to dictate the pace of the game. I want the players to do it and whoever’s going to be on board has got to figure that out pretty quick.”

On rookie Brett Connolly:

“Basically he didn’t play last year. Every day he’s showing more and more. His mind thinks really fast. Right now, I’m very happy to see a player we drafted first do that well, to improve so fast. I thought he’d have a bit of a hard time since he didn’t play much last year so that says a lot about him.”

On who will be the #1 goaltender:

“Well, you know what? Everybody’s asking me who’s gonna be that #1 and to me it’s going to be that who’s in net that day and right now, if they’re both in net, you get a tie. But the reality is they’re two solid goaltenders and what we’re going to be looking for in both of them is, since we know they can both be outstanding, we’re looking for who can be outstanding on a regular basis.”
