Rays Slow Down Yankee Express

The Rays got one back tonight, beating the Yankees soundly 7-2, just in time to (hopefully) calm the frayed nerves of some of the Rays faithful. Tomorrow’s game, the last meeting between the two AL East behemoths in the regular season carries the weight of two games in the standings: A Rays loss sends them back to Tropicana Field 2.5 out of first place while a win has them only a half game back, the same as when the series started. The Rays will have ten games remaining, the Yankees will only have nine.
Boston beat the Orioles 6-1 tonight.

MAGIC NUMBERS:

Rays: Wild Card = 5, Division = 13

Yankees: Wild Card = 3, Division = 10
