Mattias Ohlund Injury Update: Lightning Defenseman Could Miss More Time Than Expected

the Lightning continue to get bad news along their defensive front, as Mattias Ohlund looks like he might be out for longer than anticipated following two knee surgeries.

The Tamp Bay Lightning have been his hard by the injury bug this season, and that bug seems to be focused on their defense. We passed along the information of Eric Brewer's mysterious injury yesterday, and now they get more bad news along the back line. According to Damian Cristodero of the St. Petersburg Times, Mattias Ohlund could be out longer than originally anticipated following knee surgery.

Ohlund, off skates since Sept. 30 after arthroscopic surgery on both knees to clean out "loose bodies," originally was to be sidelined four to six weeks. "But in light of having been 'scoped and talking with the doctors, we're thinking more likely six weeks and potentially a little longer," (GM Steve) Yzerman said.

Ohlund has not been able to play all year, and the Lightning have certainly missed his presence, especially considering the injuries that have depleted that position throughout the young season. The sooner these guys can get back on the ice the better.
