Conference Realignment: UCF Approves Change Allowing President To Switch Conferences

If the Big East invites the UCF Knights to join it, they'll be able to act quickly in accepting. According to Iliana Limon of the Orlando Sentinel, UCF's board of trustees voted unanimously Friday morning to give university president John Hitt authority to "to make decisions about conference affiliation, which could lead to membership in the Big East."

The official provision states the following:

"Approval is requested to delegate authority to President Hitt to negotiate and execute a contract for athletic conference affiliation and to negotiate and provide notice of contract cancellation as necessary."

UCF is currently a member of Conference USA. The Big East is looking to expand after losing the Pittsburgh Panthers, Syracuse Orange, Texas Christian Horned Frogs and the West Virginia Mountaineers recently. UCF is among six schools the Big East has targeted: the others are the Air Force Falcons, Boise St. Broncos, Houston Cougars, Navy Midshipmen, and SMU Mustangs.
