The Miami Hurricanes have had one disappointing year...to say the least. After facing some serious allegations about their athletic department that could result in severe sanctions from the NCAA -- and potentially "The Death Penalty" -- the Hurricanes flopped during the season. They struggled all season long, finished with a 6-6 record, and decided to self-impose a ban on bowl games for their program.
↵As if all that wasn't enough, it now looks like the future of their program is going down the tubes. Whether or not the NCAA decides to eliminate the program, the Hurricanes are in a slow spiral down to mediocrity:

The Hurricanes are one of the oldest sports teams in the state, and they used to be up there with the Gators and Seminoles as one of the top schools for new recruits in the country. They're still ranked by Rivals.com as the 9th best recruiting school for the 2012 class, but they have fallen behind Florida and Florida State by a decent margin.
↵Gators: 17 recruits, 12 four stars or higher
Seminoles: 15 recruits, 11 four stars or higher
Hurricanes: 28 recruits, 8 four stars or higher
Eight four-star recruits isn't too shabby considering the allegations against the program -- and the serious questions about the program's long-term survival -- but it's still a far cry from where the Hurricanes used to be.
↵I'm disappointed we don't know exactly what is driving this decrease, though. Is it that recruits are concerned about the future of the program? That they don't want to be affiliated with a school that had their image tarnished so much? Or were the hookers and blow really the deal makers?
