NBA Free Agency: Dwight Howard Wanted Magics To Claim Chauncey Billups

The Orlando Magic aren't sure how long Dwight Howard will still be on their roster, but it appears that while he is still around, he wants to help make a lot of the personnel decisions and roster moves. The latest, according to our Orlando Pinstriped Post blog was his interest in the Magic picking up Chauncey Billups off waivers, a move that is no longer possible after the Clippers claimed him on Monday.

During the Orlando Magic's annual Media Day event Monday, franchise center Dwight Howard--whose trade request became public Saturday--softened his stance on leaving Orlando, leaving open the possibility that he would stay if the team made certain moves. "If you're willing to change and you're willing to do what it takes to win, then, you know, you've got me," Howard said, according to Brian Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel.

Howard has put the Magic in a very tough situation. He is putting a lot of pressure on the front office to make moves that might not pan out once he is no longer with the team. And the moves the team has made, signing Glen Davis for example, might not be enough to make a huge difference through this season.
