Florida International Vs. Marshall, 2011 St. Petersburg Bowl: Recap And Score

The Marshall Thundering Herd scored ten fourth quarter points on Tuesday night to edge past the Golden Panthers of Florida International 20-10. The big star of the game was Marshall freshman quarterback and Miami native Rakeem Cato, who was able to throw for two touchdowns in his return to his hometown. Here is Cato's reaction, via The Boston Globe.

‘‘I told Coach, ‘I’m feeling like Tom Brady right now.’ ... I just told him to put it on my back and we’re going to bring it home,’’ the young quarterback said. ‘‘That’s what he did.’’

Marshall coach Doc Holliday gave a lot of credit to his special teams unit and their ability to make the game-changing play on the blocked punt.

‘‘It got ugly at times, but you know what, it was two good defenses,’’ Holliday said. ‘‘FIU has an excellent defense. I think our guys are pretty good, too, so it just came down to who could make a play at the end. If you block a punt, you’ve got a great chance of winning. That’s what we did.’’
