The Tampa Bay Lighting hosted the New York Rangers tonight at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa. The Lighting are looking to get above .500 and after the first period they're on the right track. Towards the end of the first period with just 1:24 left on the clock, Steve Downie scored for the Lightning, giving them a 1-0 lead over the Rangers. The goal was assisted by Steven Stamkos and Teddy Purcell.
The Lightning bested the Rangers in shots on goal in the first period, 10-9. The Rangers took most of the face offs 14-10, but the Lightning led the way in take aways 5-2. The Lightning will look to continue to hold offensively and hold off the Rangers offense to pick up the win.
