Carolina Hurricanes Vs. Tampa Bay Lightning: Game Preview

The Tampa Bay Lightning (16-17-3, 35 points) look to continue their current hot streak when they take on the Carolina Hurricanes (13-20-6, 32 points) Saturday evening in a Southeast Division New Year's Eve battle.

The Tampa Bay Lightning (16-17-3, 35 points) look to continue their current hot streak when they take on the Carolina Hurricanes (13-20-6, 32 points) Saturday evening in a Southeast Division New Year's Eve battle.

The Lightning are coming off yet another come-from-behind win, having defeated the Montreal Canadiens Thursday night 4-3 after trailing entering the third period. The victory was Tampa Bay's NHL-leading fifth when trailing after two periods. The Lightning are now 4-1-1 over its last six games.

Steven Stamkos has been stellar so far this season for Tampa Bay. Stamkos scored twice in Tuesday's 5-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers, and added another goal in the 4-3 win over Montreal. Stamkos now was seven goals and three assist in his past seven games, and leads the league with 23 goals.

Carolina and Tampa Bay have split the first two matchups of the season, with the Hurricanes winning the most recent game, played November 1 in Tampa. Carolina struggled early in the year, but has now won three of four games and sits just three points behind the Lightning in the Southeast Division.
