After two periods at the St. Pete Times Forum, the Carolina Hurricanes lead the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2. Bolts' goalie Mathieu Garon got the start in net but was pulled in the first period after giving up three goals on just eight Carolina shots. Dwayne Roloson, however, quickly gave up his first goal of the night just minutes after coming on in relief. The Canes fourth goal of the first period gave them a 4-1 lead heading to the first intermission.
Teddy Purcell cut that lead to two in the second period, as he beat Carolina netminder Cam Ward on a feed from Bruno Gervais and All-Star Steven Stamkos. Nate Thompson scored Tampa Bay's first goal of the night on an unassisted effort that cut Carolina's lead in half at the time. But the Canes came back to add two more in the final five minutes, chasing Garon. The Bolts gained some ground in a relatively clean second period, but Roloson will have to stand tall in net if they are to climb back from their two-goal deficit with only one period left.
