Magic Vs. Warriors: Dwight Howard Attempts 39 Free Throws In Magic Win

The Orlando Magic traveled across the Country to face the Golden State Warriors and Dwight Howard ended up breaking an NBA record for his troubles. He led the Magic to a 117-109 win while attempting an NBA record 39 free throws. He converted on just 21 of those attempts, but was still able to put up an incredible stat line of 45 points and 23 rebounds.

Golden State was called for an incredible 36 fouls on the night, which is very nearly one every minute. To contrast, the Magic were called for just 16. According to ESPN, Stan Van Gundy even abandoned calling plays during the course of the game because he knew the Warriors would just end up fouling Dwight.

"I'm looking at them like, 'We're not going to run a play. He's going to foul him," Van Gundy said. "What are we going to bother with diagraming a play? Make the free throw, play some defense."

Both of the starting big men on the Warriors fouled out of the game, and two players recorded five fouls off the bench. The Magic will now travel back across the Country for a Monday afternoon matchup with the Knicks.
