As a middling football fan, my interest in the Super Bowl typically hinges on two variable: the commercials and the food. I love a good game, but even more than that, I love having a good time at the party and partaking in some tasty dishes with friends.
And a couple years ago, I stumbled across possibly the best Super Bowl appetizer ever. I don't mean to be hyperbolic; I'm simply stating what I believe to be the truth. If you're looking for good football food, I don't think you can go wrong with bacon, cocktail hot dogs, and copious amounts of brown sugar.
Recipe after the jump.
I originally found this recipe on All Recipes, so check them out for tips, photos, and nutrition information. Here's the basic recipe, though:
Ingredients:
Cocktail wieners
Bacon
Brown Sugar
Toothpicks
Directions:
Preheat over to 325 degrees F.
Wrap each cocktail wiener with one piece of bacon, securing in place with a toothpick. Spread out wrapped wieners on a baking sheet, and then sprinkle them with brown sugar. Be generous (~3/4 cup is a good estimate).
Bake for 40 minutes, or until the bacon looks done and the sugar is bubbling.
And done! Serve these babies hot, using a crock pot if necessary. It's an incredibly simple appetizer that is quick to make, and it goes well with beer (speaking from personal experience). You can also alter the recipe to make as much or as little as you desire. Enjoy!
