The Central Florida Knights are fresh off a 40-20 win over East Carolina and aim to improve to 2-0 in Conference USA play against Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles will be playing for their first win of the season.
UCF (3-2, 1-0 C-USA) enters the game tied with Memphis atop Conference USA's East Division, and the Knights' two losses have come against major conference competition. UCF lost, 31-16, at No. 14 Ohio State on Sept. 8, and fell, 21-16, at home against Missouri on Sept. 29.
After winning the Conference USA championship in 2011, Southern Miss, (0-5, 0-1) is off to a disastrous start to the 2012 campaign. The Golden Eagles are coming off a 40-14 home loss against Boise State, and USM is being outscored by an average of 18.8 points per game.
UCF opened as a 15-point favorite, and the line has moved to -17 at most sportsbooks. Kickoff from Bright House Networks Stadium in Orlando is set for Saturday night at 8 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
