South Florida head basketball coach Stan Heath likely exploited a recruiting advantage – parenthood – to land Tampa Prep point guard Josh Heath, his son. The younger Heath, along with some of his high school teammates, visited Tampa for the USF vs. Florida State football game over the weekend, and made his commitment afterwards (quote from the Tampa Times):
"He just had a great time with some of the other kids (the Bulls) were recruiting last weekend," [Tampa Prep head coach Joe] Fenlon said. "I think it's going to be a good situation. You get to play big-time basketball in your hometown."
Josh Heath told the Times he'd received close to 20 offers from some Ivy League schools as well as local universities, including North Florida and Jacksonville. Josh averaged 12.4 points and 7.1 assists as a junior for Tampa Prep, and helped win a 3A state title.
