Donovan Solano hits game winner as Marlins win, 4-3, in 11 innings

Miami Marlins second baseman Donovan Solano's single in the bottom of the 11th gave the Marlins a 4-3 win Tuesday night over the New York Mets in the second-to-last game of the 2012 season for both teams.

Jose Reyes led off the bottom of the 11th with a triple to center, and Collin McHugh intentionally walked Giancarlo Stanton and Carlos Lee to load the bases. McHugh struck out Rob Brantly before giving up the decisive hit to Solano.

Jacob Turner pitched 7⅔ innings, giving up one earned run on three hits. He had four strikeouts and two walks. The Mets' Cy Young Award hopeful R.A. Dickey was not at his best in his final outing of the season. He gave up three earned runs on seven hits in six innings.

The Marlins took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth on a Gorkys Hernandez solo home run off of Dickey. Miami doubled their lead with another solo shot, this one Brantly's, in the bottom of the fifth.

Carlos Lee knocked in the Marlins' third run off Dickey in the bottom of the sixth. Lee's single drove in Jose Reyes from third.

Earlier in the sixth inning, Adam Greenberg pinch-hit for the Marlins and recorded his first career at bat. He struck out swinging on three pitches.

The Mets scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth, tying the game after not being able to get anything going off Turner in the first seven innings. Turner got the first two outs of the seventh easily, giving up a double to Jordany Valdespin in between. Mike Dunn replaced Turner, and Dunn gave up a single to his only batter faced.

Heath Bell came on for the Marlins, and he gave up a David Wright single to make the score 3-1, then walked the next batter to load the bases. A wild pitch scored Daniel Murphy from third, and an infield single to the next batter tied the game at 3-3.

The Marlins and the Mets will conclude their seasons tomorrow at 4:10 p.m. ET at Marlins Park.
