Florida A&M fell short in its comeback try, as the Rattlers lost to South Carolina State, 27-20, in overtime.
The Rattlers trailed by 17-7 going into the fourth quarter as quarterback Damien Fleming completed a four-yard touchdown pass to make it a one-possession game. The Bulldogs blocked the extra point however, and that one point would prove costly for Florida A&M.
On the ensuing drive, Bulldogs kicker Nick Belcher connected on a career-long 47-yard field goal to extend the Bulldogs' lead to 20-13.
Senior quarterback Tyler Bass came in and completed a 43-yard touchdown to tie the game with a shade over two minutes remaining.
The Bulldogs would score on their overtime possession to make the game 27-20 and that is where the score would stay. Bass' fourth-down pass fell incomplete in the end zone and South Carolina State avoided a three-game losing streak.
Florida A&M fell to 3-2 in the MEAC and South Carolina State picked up their fifth consecutive win in Tallahassee, Fla.
The Rattlers' next game is on the road against North Carolina A&T on Saturday, Nov. 3.
