The Miami Heat lead the Boston Celtics, 62-54, at halftime of Tuesday night's season opener. Shane Battier scored the first points of the game with a 3-pointer from the left wing. LeBron James' first score came on a pull-up jumper from the right elbow. The Heat were clicking offensively and finished the half shooting 51 percent from the field.
Miami held the lead for most of the half. James scored eight points in the first quarter, and in the second, he was still able to draw contact with his aggressiveness and get to the line. James had 16 points at halftime. In Ray Allen's first 12 minutes as a member of the Heat, he put up 11 points and hit both of his 3s.
Paul Pierce came out firing for the Boston Celtics. Pierce hit his first two 3-point attempts and finished the half with 16 points to match James. Rajon Rondo was able to get into the lane almost at will, whether in transition or in the half-court setup. Rondo finished the first half with eight points and eight assists.
