SEC Football Standings 2012: Georgia, Alabama control path to title game

With the season dwindling to a close, the Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide control their respective faiths to the conference title game

Scott Halleran

The Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide control their respective paths to the SEC title game, which isn't good news for the Florida Gators.

While the Bulldogs and Gators are tied at 7-1 in conference games, Georgia's victory against Florida earlier in the season gives them the tiebreaker in the SEC - East division. With no more conference games remaining for either team, the Bulldogs will meet the winner of the SEC - West division in the conference title game.

Currently, the Alabama Crimson Tide control their path to meet Georgia in the conference title game, despite suffering their first conference loss on Saturday against Texas A&M.

Alabama could lose the division, but would need to lose to lowly Auburn in the last game of the season. In addition, Texas A&M would need to defeat conference foe Missouri in their last game, too. The Crimson Tide own the tiebreaker over any other divisional opponent.
