The Florida International Golden Panthers and Florida Atlantic Owls are set to square off in this year's "Shula Bowl" Friday night at FAU Football Stadium.
Both squads have had rough seasons, sporting a combined overall record of 5-15 and a combined Sun Belt record of 3-9. However, both teams are coming off victories. Florida International defeated South Alabama, 28-20, on Nov. 3 to snap a seven-game losing streak, while Florida Atlantic defeated Western Kentucky, 37-28, last Saturday to move to 3-7.
Neither team has had a lot of success on the defensive side of the ball. Florida International is giving up 33.3 points per game, which is 100th in the nation. Florida Atlantic's defense has not fared much better, giving up 30.1 points per game.
The offenses have struggled for the most part as well. Florida International is putting up 24.9 points per game, while Florida Atlantic is at a paltry 20.1 points per game, which is 108th in the country.
Florida Atlantic leads the all-time series, 8-2.
