Coastal Carolina vs. Bethune-Cookman results: Wildcats eliminated by Chanticleers, 24-14

After going down by 24 points, Bethune-Cookman could not rally on Saturday afternoon and were eliminated from the the FCS playoffs by Coastal Carolina.

The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats tried to rally on Saturday, but it was too little, too late as the Wildcats were beaten, 24-14, by the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in the first round of the FCS Playoffs.

The Wildcats fell behind in the second quarter as Coastal Carolina scored three times, on touchdowns by Marcus Whitener and Matt Hazel as well as a field goal by Alex Catron, to take a 17-0 lead at halftime.

After a scoreless third quarter, Coastal Carolina made the lead 24-0 with a 68-yard interception returned for a touchdown by Johnnie Houston, who also forced a fumble earlier in the game.

Bethune-Cookman tried to mount a fourth-quarter comeback, scoring a pair of touchdowns in the final period, but the Wildcats could not get any closer than 24-14.

Bethune-Cookman came into the game 9-2 on the season after winning the MEAC conference with a perfect 8-0 record. The 2012 season ends at 9-3 season for the Wildcats. Coastal Carolina is now 8-4 and advances to face fourth-seeded Old Dominion on Dec. 1.
