UConn vs. USF 2012 score update: USF leads, 7-3

There hasn't been much offense to speak of in Saturday night's Big East battle between Connecticut Huskies and South Florida Bulls. After two quarters of play, the Bulls are up, 7-3, and have held the Huskies to just 145 total yards of offense.

The lone touchdown of the first half came with 4:33 left in the first quarter. USF's B.J. Daniels ran up the middle for a five-yard score, capping an eight-play, 80-yard drive. USF converted two big third downs on the drive, with Daniels hitting Andre Davis for a 16-yard gain around midfield on 3rd-and-4, and Marcus Shaw racking up 26 yards on a carry on 3rd-and-2 at UConn's 25-yard line.

USF had two scoring chances in the second quarter, but the offense stalled out both times. In the first drive, Daniels took the Bulls to UConn's 31-yard line, only to take a six-yard sack on 3rd-and-6 to push the Bulls out of field-goal range. On the next possession, a 13-play drive all the way to UConn's 19-yard line went for naught as Daniels was sacked on second down, then picked off on the next play by the Huskies' Dwayne Gratz.

UConn got on the board in the waning moments of the half, as Chad Christen nailed a 50-yard field goal with two seconds left on the clock. But the Bulls' defense has stymied the Huskies all night, sacking quarterback Chandler Whitmer twice and allowing only eight UConn first downs.

Daniels is 11-of-17 for 164 yards and an interception. Whitmer is 11-of-16 for 124 yards. Shaw leads all rushers with 46 yards on seven carries.
