Big East Football Standings 2012: Louisville, Rutgers share conference lead

Louisville and Rutgers remain tied atop the Big East heading into the final few weeks of the season

Andy Lyons

It's too little, too late for South Florida in the Big East race, but the battle for the conference crown - and a BCS bowl berth - will come right down the wire.

Louisville held on to perfection on Saturday, defeating Temple 45-17 and extending its record to 9-0 - all just one week after the Cardinal scored their biggest win of the season with an overtime victory over Cincinnati last Friday night.

Meanwhile, Rutgers rested on its bye week before the Scarlet Knights welcome 2-7 Army to New Jersey next weekend.

If both Louisville and Rutgers can avoid a loss over the next three weeks - which will require the Scarlet Knights beating Cincinnati on the road - the two teams will meet in a last-week showdown that would determine which program would grab the conference crown and and BCS bowl bid.
