The Tampa Bay Rays traded Burke Badenhop to the Milwaukee Brewers for minor league prospect Raul Mondesi Jr. on Saturday.
Badenhop was a key member of the Rays bullpen in 2012, where he spent his first full season in the majors.The 29-year-old finished with a 3-2 record and 3.03 ERA in 62⅓ innings of work. He was especially tough against hitters at Tropicana Field, allowing just a 1.53 ERA.
Mondesi Jr., meanwhile, spent the past season with the Rookie-level Helena Brewers of the Pioneer League after signing in 2010 with Milwaukee out of the Dominican Republic. He hit .231 with five home runs, 32 RBI and eight stolen bases in 68 games.
The outfielder is the son of old friend Raul Mondesi, who spent five seasons battling against the Rays in the AL East with the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees. Mondesi finished his career with a .273 average, 271 home runs, a 1994 NL Rookie of the Year award and two Gold Glove awards.
