Thursday will be a relatively quiet day for college basketball in the state of Florida, as the only teams in action are the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles and Florida International Golden Panthers. And it just so happens that the two teams will be playing each other.
The Eagles have not yet lost at Alico Arena, sporting a 5-0 record at home and a 6-4 record overall. Florida Gulf Coast last played on Dec. 4, falling 83-72 at Iowa State.
Guards Bernard Thompson and Sherwood Brown drive the Eagles, with Thompson leading the team in scoring at 15.1 points per game on 48.6 percent shooting. Brown is nipping at Thompson's heels, as the senior is averaging 14.9 points per game.
Florida International currently sits at 3-3 on the season and is fresh off an 82-79 win over Stetson on Dec. 9. Junior guard Malik Smith leads the Golden Panthers in scoring at 17.3 points per game and is shooting 44.2 percent from three-point land.
Tip-off is set for 7:05 p.m. ET.
