College basketball schedule: FIU, FAU in action Thursday

Florida International and Florida Atlantic both head on the road to take on Sun Belt opponents, with the Owls facing Troy and the Panthers taking on the Hilltoppers.

Pat Lovell-USA TODAY Sports

Florida Atlantic and Florida International each play winnable games as each tries to move above .500 in Sun Belt play early on in the conference slate.

8 p.m., Florida Atlantic Owls (5-7, 1-1) vs. Troy Trojans (5-8, 0-2): Greg Gantt is having a tremendous senior campaign for the Owls, averaging 21.8 points on career-best shooting numbers and hitting 42.5 percent from beyond the arc. That's good for ninth in the country. Troy hasn't won a game in conference play in two tries, but they'll be a tough test for Richard Pitino's squad, with Kenpom.com giving them a one-point edge.

8 p.m., Florida International Golden Panthers (4-5, 1-1) vs. Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (8-5, 2-0): The Panthers head to Bowling Green to take on a traditionally strong Sun Belt squad in the Hilltoppers. Western Kentucky doesn't have many great wins -- they beat a poor Big East squad in DePaul -- but they're close to the best the conference has to offer.
