Super Bowl 2012 Commercials: VW Beetle Ad Makes You Want A Thinner Dog, Or Star Wars Or Something

Super Bowl XLVI is just a few days away and already advertisers have begun releasing their new Super Bowl commercials online. The new commercial for the Volkswagen Beetle popped up online in the last couple of days and the official VW YouTube version already has over a million views.

The ad is another entry in the car company's inexplicable partnership with the Star Wars franchise. It began at last year's Super Bowl when they debuted a Passat commercial featuring the "Star Wars Kid," who tries to use his or her Force powers...with adorable results. Recently, VW put out a commercial to "tease" their Super Bowl commercial, which features a chorus of dogs barking the Imperial March, and a whippet dressed as an AT-AT Walker.

Here's what the hype is about. After the jump, you can see the brand-new Super Bowl ad. It's a weird one!

The ad is called "The Dog Strikes Back," but it should just be called, "This is the commercial we came up with for the Super Bowl, but then we remembered we were supposed to make one involving Star Wars, so we just added another half an ad to the end of it and then stitch them together with the flimsiest of narrative threads."

That would have been a more accurate title, I think.
