While both the FAU and FIU men's basketball teams were eliminated in the first round of the Sun Belt Tournament, their women's teams put on proud showings for their schools. Both teams lasted deep in the Sun Belt Tournament, going as far as the semi-finals before losing to the two No. 1 seeds in the tournament -- Middle Tennessee and UALR.
In yesterday's action, No. 2 FIU fell to No. 1 Middle Tennessee 63-53, as the Golden Panthers let the game slip away from them in the final five minutes of action. They had closed to within two points of Middle Tennessee, but then got outscored 10-2 over the final five minutes to seal their fate.
Meanwhile, No. 3 FAU fared worse against No. 1 UALR, losing 59-42. They started off the game strong, scoring the first four points of the game, but it was all downhill from there as the Trojans took the lead and held it for the remainder of the game.
UALR and Middle Tennessee will face off Tuesday at 2:00pm EST in the Sun Belt Championship game. In the men's tournament, No. 5 North Texas and No. 7 WKU will face in the championship game tonight at 7:00pm EST. The women's championship will be broadcast on ESPNU, while the men's championship will be shown on ESPN2.
