Robert Weiner Wins In The Offseason, Too

Things are awfully good for Plant High School football coach Robert Weiner. His Panthers have won four state championships in the last six years, including the 2011 title in the new Class 8A, the highest classification in the state. By any measure, he coaches one of the best high school teams in Florida.

So if you don’t like stories about guys who win a lot winning even more, go ahead and stop reading now. Just skip down to that Stan Van Gundy story. I’ll wait.

You ready? OK. Robert Weiner won a new car tonight.

Plant football coach Robert Weiner won the grand prize at the annual Hillsborough County Coaches Banquet when his name was drawn for a new car on Saturday night at the Downtown Hyatt. The car is a 2012 Ford Focus and is donated by area Ford dealers.

And much like Dante Hicks, Weiner wasn’t even supposed to be there today. He was supposed to be speaking at a coaches’ clinic in Daytona Beach, but when it was canceled, he went to the banquet instead.

At least Weiner knows a story like this would drive some people crazy:

"I told everyone there, ‘I know there’s going to be people that hate that I won this because they think Plant wins everything,’ but it’s such an honor.‘’

Uh, there’s no “think” about it, Robert.
