Big East Tournament Final: Seton Hall Defeats Rutgers, 6-1

The Seton Hall Pirates opened up their Big East tournament with a convincing 6-1 victory over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla.

The Pirates used the strength of a three-run third inning, sparked by a two-run RBI Double by left fielder Scott Kalamar. Catcher Dillon Hamlin hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend Seton Hall's lead. Starting pitcher Jon Prosinski pitched six innings and allowed only one run on seven hits while striking out four.

The Scarlet Knights scored their only run in the top of the third inning on an RBI single by second baseman Nick Favatella that scored shortstop Pat Sweeny.

The Pirates advance to the second round to play the winner of St. John's and Notre Dame at 1 p.m. on Thursday. The Scarlet Knights face the loser of the same game in an elimination game at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
