2012 Atlantic Sun Baseball Tournament: Two Blowouts And One Long Game

The opening round of the 2012 Atlantic Sun baseball tournament kicked off on Wednesday.

No. 5 Mercer vs No. 2 USC Upstate, Mercer pounds USC Upstate 11-2: In the opening round of the Atlantic Sun baseball tournament the No. 5 seeded Mercer beat up on the Spartans to the tune of 11 runs. Nick Backlund had a huge game for Mercer, going 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI, while first baseman Travis Benn went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

No. 4 FGCU vs No. 3 Kennesaw State, FGCU beats up Kennesaw State 12-4: FGCU got a six-run inning in top of the sixth inning to power past Kennesaw State in the opening round of the tournament after Kennesaw State tied the game 3-3 early on. A six-run sixth inning by FGCU however put them over the top and Kennesaw State just couldn't keep up offensively as FGCU won 12-4.

No. 6 Stetson vs No. 1 Belmont, Bears win in 15 innings 3-2: Stetson took an early lead over No. 1 seeded Belmont scoring two runs in the second inning, but mid-way through the game the Bears were able come tie up the game. Stetson took late lead in the eighth inning on a Mitchell Brennan hit. Belmont tied the game in the bottom of the ninth however, sending it into extra innings. After 15 innings of play, Belmont wins 3-2.
