Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey will have to sit out Saturday's friendly with Scotland in Jacksonville, FL. Dempsey has a groin injury and Altidore wasn't released in time by his current club, Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar.
In their absence however, three of the United State's other strikers -- Chris Wondolowski, Herculez Gomez and Terrence Boyd -- must all step up their play as the US goes in search of qualifying for a 2014 World Cup berth.
But will their play ultimitely matter much when Dempsey and Altidore do return? Goal.com has more:
All three could conceivably have big parts to play in as the USA searches for qualification to the 2014 World Cup, but Klinsmann's reliance on a single target forward makes that seem unlikely. With Altidore the clear front runner for that spot, and Dempsey almost certain to continue playing as the second striker when he's fit again, chances could be limited.
