In what was one of the wildest Indy 500s ever that featured over 30 lead changes, Dario Franchitti emerged from the mad scramble in the final laps to win his third career Indy 500.
After Marco Andretti's wreck in the final laps, it set up a six lap shootout for the finish. While Franchitti held the lead for the final laps, the victory did not come without competition. Japanese driver Takuma Sato made a desperate attempt to take the lead during the final lap, but he wrecked while trying to overtake Franchitti.
This is the third time that Franchitti will kiss the bricks, as he has won previously in 2007 and 2010.
