French Open Results: Serena Williams Stunned In First Round Match

Serena Williams was upset in the first round of the French Open at Roland Garros on Tuesday afternoon. She lost in three sets to Frenchwoman Virginie Razzano, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 3-6. This is the first time in her professional career that she has lost in the first round of a Grand Slam tournament.

Here earliest exits in the French Open were a pair third round losses in 1999 and 2008. However, in her entire career, the French Open is the one Grand Slam she has not won more than once. Her lone French Open title was in 2002 and she has not reached the semi-finals since 2003.

Williams hopes that she will be able to rebound later this summer and go after her fifth Wimbledon title. Her 2010 title at Wimbledon is her last Grand Slam championship.

A full scoreboard of all the action at Roland Garros can be found here.
