The first round of the U.S. Open at the Olympic Club in San Francisco is underway and the feature group of the first round which includes Tiger Woods, Bubba Watson and Phil Mickelson is certainly an interesting one to watch.
Woods is doing a well enough job halfway through the first round, shooting even on the back-nine to start the tournament. Though Woods bogeyed on 14, he rebounded with a birdie on 17.
Watson and Mickelson on the other hand have struggled quite a bit to start the tournament. Mickelson started the tournament with three straight bogeys on the back nine. He got one of them back with a birdie on 13, but then bogeyed 14 and 16 to finish the back nine at four strokes over.
Watson has had even worse luck to open the tournament, bogeying two of the first three holes. He then went par from 12 through 14, but then bogeyed the next two holes. After gaining a shot back with a birdie on 17, he double bogeyed 18 to finish the back nine at five strokes over.
The afternoon wave has still yet to tee off, so half the field has yet to begin their round. As of now, Americans Kevin Na and Jason Bohn and South African Branden Grace are tied for the tournament lead at two under.
