Roger Federer was nearly upset against Julian Benneteau, but Federer rallied from losing the first two sets to ultimately win and move on by defeating Benneteau 4-6, 6-7, 6-2, 7-6 and 6-1 in Friday's third round match.
Benneteau started off strong in the first set by taking advantage on his lone chance to break Federer and was able to put him down a hole to start the match. The second set also went Benneteau's way but it was much tougher as Federer was able to go game for game against Benneteau. The two held serve through the tiebreak until Benneteau was able to get the win to go up two sets.
In the third set is when Federer made his comeback and easily took care of Benneteau. In that third set it seemed that Benneteau was content in giving away the set to conserving his energy. The fourth set went to a tiebreaker, and Benneteau was going strong and holding his own against Federer, but he could not win the tiebreaker. During that fourth set Benneteua picked up some sort of upper leg injury which slowed him down.
In the final set, Federer would cruise to a 6-1 victory and complete his comeback.
