After three innings at Tropicana Field, the Tampa Bay Rays trail the visiting Detroit Tigers by a score of 1-0.
Perhaps, most notably though, for the second day in a row, a Tampa Bay starting pitcher has left the game with an injury. With two outs in the top of the third, starter Jeremy Hellickson was hit by a Prince Fielder live drive just above his right shin, allowing Austin Jackson to score, the only run of the game thus far. Following the play, the right-hander made a few soft practice tosses and asked to remain in the game, but manager Joe Maddson opted, instead, to go with reliever J.P. Howell.
It was Hellickson's first start since going on the DL with shoulder fatigue earlier this month.
Collectively, the Rays have just one hit -- a single from shortstop Elliot Johnson.
