Qualifying rounds for the 2012 US Open are happening throughout the country. One of those qualifying rounds is taking place at Black Diamond Ranch, on the Quarry Course, in Lecanto, Florida. Play started on Monday in Lecanto. Daniel Berger of Jupiter, Fl., leads the field with a 68.
Berger is a freshman member of the Florida State golf team. He recently helped his team finish eighth in the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship, for the second time in the last three years.
Right behind Berger on the leaderboard is Andy Zhang of China. Zhang is tied with a pair of Florida based golfers with a 70, Blayne Barber of Lake City and Brett Stegmaier of Vero Beach. There are six players behind them tied at 71.
