The Miami Marlins get back to action Friday night at beautiful, new Marlins Park against the first-place Washington Nationals to start the second half of the 2012 MLB season. TV coverage begins at 7 p.m. on Fox Sports Florida, with the first pitch scheduled around 7:10. Fans can also catch all the action on WAXY-AM 790 and WAQI-AM 710, beginning at 7 p.m.
The Marlins will send right-hander Josh Johnson to the Hill. He will be opposed by Jordan Zimmerman of the Nationals. Johnson is 5-5 on the year with an ERA of 4.06. Zimmerman, who also throws from the right side, is 5-6 this season and has an impressive 2.61 ERA.
Miami owns a 3-2 edge in the five games played between these two teams this season. The Nationals swept the two games played in DC, while Miami did the same to the Nats in the three games played earlier at Marlins Park.
Miami enters the second half of the season with a record of 41-44 and in fourth place in the NL East. Washington leads the division with a 49-34 mark through the first half.
