Red Sox Vs. Rays: James Shields Shelled In 7-3 Loss

The Boston Red Sox were able to pummel Tampa Bay Rays starter James Shields, pulling out a 7-3 win at Tropicana Field Sunday.

There were fireworks early, with the Boston Red Sox scoring a run in the top of the first, followed by three runs by the Rays in the bottom half. After scoring a pair in the top of the second, the Red Sox would then take over, led by the arm of Josh Beckett.

After that rough first, Beckett settled in. His final line for the afternoon was allowing three runs on eight hits in six innings while striking out six.

For the Rays, Shields was pummeled all afternoon, giving up six runs on 11 hits in five innings. Offensive highlights for the Red Sox included home runs from both Daniel Nava and Mike Aviles.

The Rays would load the bases in the bottom of the ninth, but would not be able to take advantage of the opportunity.
