The 2012 British Open begins on Thursday, July 19, and the possibilities for the tournament are wide open. A full schedule, TV information and more information is below.

As usual, Florida is well represented. Tiger Woods and numerous other world class golfers make their home in the area, and a few were born here: Matt Kuchar was born in Winter Park and Bubba Watson was born in Bagdad. A complete list of golfers who call the area home:

  • Keegan Bradley, Jupiter
  • Luke Donald, Palm Beach Gardens
  • Rickie Fowler, Jupiter
  • Jim Furyk, Ponte Vedra Beach
  • Charles Howell III, Orlando
  • Ian Poulter, Orlando
  • Vijay Singh, Ponte Vedra Beach
  • Tiger Woods, Jupiter Island
As for golfers to watch, 2011 British Open champion Darren Clarke is once again in the field. The last local to win the Championship was Tiger Woods in 2006, and with his recent form looking more like Tiger of the past he's likely to make a good showing this year. Luke Donald and Lee Westwood, ranked No. 1 and No. 3 respectively, have yet to win a major and are feeling some major pressure to do so. Another player to keep an eye on is Phil Mickleson. He's struggled lately, but says he's looking forward to turning things around in Lancashire.
