For the first time since 1980, the United States was not able to take home the gold medal in the Men's 4x400m relay, as a late surge by the Bahamas led to victory for the small island country.
Bahamas ran the race in 2:56.72, which was a new national record. The U.S. was right behind at 2:57.05. Trinidad and Tobago took the bronze with a time of 2:59.40. Great Britain just missed out on making the podium, finishing fourth.
Riviera Beach, FL native Tony McQuay was in the lead when he handed off the baton following the third leg, however anchor Angelo Taylor was beat down the stretch by Ramon Miller, who took the lead with approximately 75 meters to go in the race.
