Holmes played at Syracuse before going undrafted in 2011. He was initially signed by the Chicago Bears before landing with the Indianapolis Colts in October of 2011. He made the team's active roster and appeared in three games. Indianapolis waived Holmes in May.
The cornerback should have a solid local following as he played his prep ball in the Jacksonville area at Mandarin High School.
