Miami Dolphins Roster: Joe Philbin Has A Different Approach

The Miami Dolphins' coaches don't save all the drama for the HBO cameras on Hard Knocks. Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post says the meetings between coach Joe Philbin and general manager Jeff Ireland are just as lively, as the team makes decisions leading to the final 53-man roster.

Philbin holds meetings with his assistants weekly wherein he and the other coaches each rank players at their positions. After the rankings, the arguing. And after the arguing. After the arguing, more arguing, as Philbin and Ireland (who ultimately has the final say in the roster) puts in his input with the GM.

Offensive coach Mike Sherman on the meetings:

"Joe’s unique. He does a lot of things his own way," Sherman said. "There’s a couple players I disagree on with a couple assistant coaches. When we’re making the decision of who’s going to stay and who’s going to go, I guarantee you it will get a little bit lively."

The training camp roster must be cut from 90 to 80 players on Aug. 28, and to 53 players on Sept. 2.
