Miami Dolphins Defense Struggling Early

An assumed strength entering the 2012 preseason, the Miami Dolphins defensive attack has proved a weakness in the Dolphins first two preseason games, one which the coaching staff and players are looking to address head on.

The top line of the depth chart on defense has allowed 24 points combined in the first quarter to the Carolina Panthers and Buccaneers, and in the six possessions that the first-string defense played together during the two games, it surrendered four touchdowns. Not surprisingly, the Dolphins were unable to bounce back from those early deficits, and have dropped their first two preseason games.

"We have a physical defense," defensive end Jared Odrick told the Miami Herald. "You've seen it last year. ... It’s something we need to bring out of ourselves."

The Dolphins' defense has given up 659 yards of total offense and 43 points to Carolina and Tampa Bay.

Miami won't get much of a break, as the Dolphins' third preseason game comes against the Atlanta Falcons and Matt Ryan, who has started the preseason hot, completing 27 of his 34 passes in two games.
