Padraig Harrington finished the first day of the 2012 Barclays with a 7-under 64, good enough to sit atop the leaderboard midway through Thursday at Bethpage State Park in New York. Harrington shot for birdie on six of his last eight holes on the back nine to take a one-stroke lead over American Nick Watney.
Tiger Woods is 2-under through 15 holes after starting on the back nine, which is good for a tie for 17th. Sweden's Jonas Blixt, a Florida State alumnus, is 3-under through his first 14 holes. Rockland, Florida's Troy Matteson finished the day 3-under after shooting a 68, leaving him in a crowded tie for tenth.
It's early still, as Jupiter, Florida's Rickie Fowler is yet to tee off (12:44 p.m. ET), and a host of other golfers from the greater Tampa area - Jim Furyk (12:44 p.m. ET) and Ponta Verde Beach resident Vijay Singh (12:22 p.m. ET) - are still yet to start their round.
