DeMarcus Walker, a standout defensive lineman from Jacksonville, FL, has committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide over the Florida Gators, according to reports. Walker was a four-star prospect and consistently placed well in rankings. More information on Walker's power and speed after the jump.
Alabama's defensive alignment is more suited to Walker's abilities, as he's not as powerful as a pure power lineman or as fast as a pure speed rusher. As they explain over at SB Nation's college football hub:
Alabama plays a multiple defense, basing from a 3-4 alignment. Walker would not be playing as a stand-up player known as the "jack", but rather on the other side in the role of the end, playing the run first and rushing the passer second. For Alabama, this is the five-technique spot. On passing downs, he will be an inside player and not an outside rusher.
Walker has immense potential, so should Alabama's scheme maximize his talents, you can expect to hear a lot about the Jacksonville native in the future.
