The Miami Dolphins released nine players Saturday morning in an effort to begin trimming its roster before Friday, Aug. 31's deadline for the final 53-man roster.
Tight end Les Brown, defensive tackle Chas Alecxih, Marcus Brown, safety Tyrell Johnson, cornerback Trenton Hughes, linebacker Josh Linam, running back Jerome Messam, defensive end Jacquies Smith and cornerback Jonathan Wade were all roster casualties. The team also announced that running back Jonas Gray was placed on the PUP list.
Johnson came to Miami camp after four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. The safety has two career interceptions.
The Dolphins wrap up the preseason Wednesday night when they travel to face the Dallas Cowboys.
